Rangers Darvish hits DL with strained trapezius muscle

Quote:

BALTIMORE -- The Rangers starting rotation has taken another hit. The Rangers are just hoping this won't be as big of a hit as some of the others they have had to endure this season.

The Rangers are placing pitcher Yu Darvish on the disabled list with a strained trapezius muscle in his right shoulder. The Rangers are hoping the problem is simply fatigue rather than anything serious, and they are expecting him back in the rotation after the All-Star break.

"I don't think it's a big issue," Darvish said. "But just as a precaution, I would rather skip a start than push it through."

Darvish was scheduled to pitch on Thursday against the Orioles. He will be replaced by reliever Ross Wolf, and Joseph Ortiz will be called up to replace Wolf in the 'pen. Wolf is 1-1 with a 1.95 ERA in one start and nine relief appearances since being called up from Triple-A Round Rock.
