Ankiel comes off DL and will play right field
By Rick Hummel
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Rick Ankiel, who suffered a bruised right shoulder and an injury to his left side when he crashed into the Busch Stadium wall after making a spectacular catch on May 4, was removed from the 15-day disabled list today and he will play right field and bat fifth against the Kansas City Royals.

Ankiel hadn’t been making much progress until he had a good workout Saturday and then felt fine this morning. Manager Tony La Russa said on Saturday that Ankiel would be activated tomorrow in Milwaukee but La Russa said this morning, “If he’s ready tomorrow, then he’s ready today. So why not do it?”

Ankiel has played center field exclusively this season but will play right field, at least for the monent, “so he’s only got one direction he’s got to worry about,” said La Russa.

A roster move will be made before the game. La Russa said he and general manager John Mozeliak had yet to discuss whether the club should continue to keep 13 pitchers.

Now why in the hell would they send down Tyler Greene he is playing better then Thurston and has been showing some good skills...I like Tyler Greene and I think that he should start over the other Greene and the other Greene should be the one to be sent down, so that way he could work his problems out down there.

I was at three games over the weekend.

More photos here.

It's tough to judge performance based on 1 game. Ankiel didn't show any signs of being hurt, though.
