Mariners Wedge: Ichiro will bat third this season

Quote:
After 11 seasons as one of the premier leadoff hitters in the game, Ichiro Suzuki will be moved to the third spot in the Mariners' lineup this season, manager Eric Wedge said on Tuesday.

Looking for an offensive spark for a team that has finished last in the American League in scoring three straight seasons, Wedge said Chone Figgins and Dustin Ackley will be the likely Nos. 1 and 2 hitters, respectively, in Seattle's lineup ahead of the 10-time All-Star.

"He's as smart a baseball player as we have in there, and he understands the game very well," Wedge said. "He understands what the responsibility and priorities are with somebody hitting third, and I'm trusting in that.

Ichiro batting third

As one of the posters has already told me, it is hard for the M's not to get in their own way. They make trades like a herd of Lemmings and they have ruined several players careers by putting them where they can't play.

So Ichiro goes the 3rd because two years ago he hit 15 home runs and last year he hit more than any other Mariner... Fifteen is as many as the M's can afford since they signed Chone Figgins. Chone is the smallest switch hitter in baseball and it is hard for him to get one to the 200 foot mark.

That is right, the guy hits like a Little Leaguer and then runs like the wind.

Now Ichiro is in his last year of his contract, and the M's Front Office is know for alienating their best players during their last year of play. They can not do enough rotten things to them, including not giving them towels after they shower. I think they are Satan's children. Other than Felix, I have not seen a good player in the last few years, who has not wanted out of their contract ASAP. Most of them make All Stars the next year, when they play for teams like Boston or Texas. Now don't get me wrong, the M's will waste money hand over fist on washed up players... they will do their best to keep them going but not Ichiro or anyone else that hits a lot.

When it comes down to it, they might as well put "non-hitters only" on their locker room door.

Believe me... They are going to try and mentally break Ichiro, just like they did gold glove Bret Boone, Kenji Johjima, and Richie Sexon. They want to low ball him early for 2013 or cripple his stats permanently so they can release him in June and put out the WORD. To finish your M's contract you have to be tough as nails like Adrian Beltre. Adrian found a way to put the screws in the FO and is making tons of money now. That first year, Adrian had to "discount" himself to a good team. A certain well known pitcher name Lee did his best to make the M's pay him without playing for them too. I still clap whenever I see him pitch.

As for me, when Ichiro goes, I hope the Owners sell. The owners have tripled their money while sending the team to the cellar.

In my opionion, The Mariners should trade Ichrio for some $$$

unless he wants to stay a Mariner for life.. if so let him, he deserves it

trade Ichiro or not...

Ichiro, 38, is a $90MM+ man this contract. A lot of it is deferred until after he retires. It was the only way they could afford him, and they begged him. He is wrapped up in Seattle, like it or not; until after this year. Trade? How would you go about it, pay someone to pay his deferral money? You might be talking about $30MM out of pocket.

It is my opinion, that the move to 3rd in the line-up was just the first salvo in a dirty dirty game of chess. By the end of the year, he is going to be batting 9th, and pulled out in the 6th. If you think Jorge Posada was maddened by the way the Yanks treated him; you ain't seen nothing yet. It is going to be a long bad year for Ichiro, as the M's seek to find a way to make him default in his last Season with them. If he defaults, his deferred retirement money is up for grabs. It is lawsuit time, and appeals and appeals and appeals. It is a horrible way to do business with a Player that has been as loyal as a favorite hunting dog.

The way I hope it plays out: he goes on the DL and drives the M's Front Office crazy. Healthy, not healthy, healthy. I hope the crowd chants his name at every game and embarrasses the daylights out of the GM and Coach. (I cannot tell you how inept those two jokers are.) I hope Ichiro refuses interviews after the game and waves at the crowd every time they clap. I hope he curses the Umpire on bad calls, and beats the crap out of the water jugs now and then. That is how Beltre did it. Angry and mean in the dugout to the very end.

Chone Figgins went 2-for-3 with a bunt single and a sharp base hit during the Mariners' third intrasquad game of the spring on Tuesday, showing again exactly what manager Eric Wedge is looking for from the leadoff position.

Figgins is in CF during Spring Training

I have a deep seated hatred for the way the M's do things. What I have noticed, is that I start to turn those feelings of hatred towards the player that they are manipulating. It is not fair.

It has been Figgins for the past year or so.

Figgins was a mistake from the beginning; because the team Front Office was trying to buy another Ichiro for half the money. Once Figgins went sour, it has only gotten worse. They did not want to buy another big bat after the Sexon debacle; so they tried to go cheap the other way. Figgins is the opposite of a long ball hitter. It was suppose to be two Ichiros, back to back, interchanging, each hitting .350 and stealing 50 bases. The people in the Front Office were suppose to be able to flaunt their contracts in their players' faces, and put their positions in doubt (by threatening to platoon them at DH). The mistake is simple. Somebody was trying to play gawd, and pressure Ichiro at the same time. If you follow the M's then you know who it was. The question I always ask myself is: why?

I just wrote a blog about the time the M's took Mike Morse, a lifetime Infielder all the way through AAA, and put him in the Out Field; specifically in Ichiro's RF. They gave him a month's training and said "go"... It was suppose to be occult magic, and instead it got Morse hurt... and Ichiro exhausted. They moved Ichiro to CF and the change made a ton of extra work for Ichiro (who is a perfectionist). A week before they fired their VP and their Coach, they moved Ichiro back to Right Field, and told the Press that it was because they were good people who only wanted the best for Ichiro........... BS.

Ichiro came back the next year with an ulcer and missed some time. It served the M's FO right for trying to mix things up. Morse healed by the next year, and was immediately traded to the Nats for a set of wooden teeth. The trade, to the worst team in baseball at the time; was meant to embarrass Morse. They represented him as a utility IF and OF, a daily guy; who somehow "deserved" to be in the OF. The M's represented him to a coach they had just fired (the Nats picked him up), and he took them up on it. Morse, for the next few years, hung in there with the Nats, until the M's were wishing they had not been so evil.

All that Morse did was sign autographs, and make friends with fans for the M's; and and set a team record for Spring Training. In return they ruined him. Last year he hit .368 with 9 home runs during Spring Training. The Nats put him at 1B last year, and he hit the long ball until they had to give him the DH this year. But,,, this year they embarrassed him by trying to make him an Out Fielder again after he had earned something more. I only ask why, but in my heart I know that it is the wicked occult magic that the Nats are trying to use.

The curse of the Mariners is on Figgins now, and judging from what it has done to Morse; it is an evil evil curse.
