I mean, these players know what the consequences are for such actions. Part of me is surprised that Melky got caught but I shouldn't. People still break the rules even though they know what will happen if they are caught.

Especially in today's game where the players have to know that the game is going to crack down on substance abuse it doesn't make much sense that these players still do it.

It never made sense for them to take it in the first place unless they were prescribed by a Dr. to heal an injury. That's the only time I advocate athletes taking such substances.

They do it for the extra million dollars. They could care less if they get caught, as long as they get that extra million, they really don't care. Some guys are like that, and Melky is one of them.

Pujols, McCutchen, Votto, and Bautista are guys who play the game for the love of it. People like Brandon Crawford could easily boost his stats up 70 points with roids, and his slugging right up 200 or 300 points.. and then get 10 more million bucks.. But he doesn't. Because he has love for the game.

More $$$$$$. Don't they make enough as it is. But you are correct there, some players just don't care.

But if they get caught, why would a team's general manager pay all that millions of dollars for somebody?

I wouldn't want somebody who gets caught. That's for sure. This may sound bold but no matter who it is, if I am an MLB GM and one of my player's tests positive for PED's, I will either trade them, designate them for assignment, release them or something.

Melky isn't getting paid a dime during his suspension.

He won't get paid like he would have if he didn't get caught.
