Vijay Singh wins the WGC-Bridgestone
Vijay Singh carded a final round of 2-under-par 68 and won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational by one stroke over Lee Westwood and Stuart Appleby.
Singh got off to a very hot start with four birdies in his first six holes, but his first bogey came at the 8th hole when he missed a 5-foot par-putt. The misfiring putter also cost him bogeys at the 11th and 13th holes, but he was able to stay at 2-under-par for the day because his excellent ball-striking gave him a tap-in birdie at the 12th hole. Singh came into the last hole one stroke up, and after Lee Westwood missed his birdie putt, he again made an adventure of his 3-foot winning par-putt, but the ball curled in from the right side of the hole for the championship. The victory is Singh's first on the PGA Tour in almost a year and a half, and he now has 32 PGA Tour Championships, of which 20 have come after he reached the age of 40 years old.
