Pain Subsides When Rivera Gets Ninth-Inning Call

When Mariano Rivera is on the mound, as he was in the ninth inning yesterday at Yankee Stadium, he insists he feels fine. His arm feels normal, he said, and he does not think about pain.

It is after he pitches that Rivera feels something different. That is why he took a magnetic resonance imaging exam before reporting to the ballpark yesterday. Rivera wanted peace of mind, and he said he had it now.

“When your arm hurts, you want to know what’s going on with your arm,” Rivera said. “Now that I know there’s nothing wrong, it’s just a small strain, I can deal with it.”

I just felt a sudden sharp pain in the pit of my stomach when I read this post. We wouldnt've won diddly-squat if it weren't for Mo. I don't even wanna think about a Yankee season without him.
