Alright we got out of that inning, without giving up a run. End of the 1st...1-0 Mets.

The double play ball has been saving the Mets behind.

Yes, after Reyes stolen base...Lo Duca gets a lucky break. We got lucky because Shoemarker should have caught that ball. Reyes score on the error 2-0 Mets at the top of the 5th.

El Duque with a 2 RBI double. 4-0 Mets. Great defense from the Mets so far, 3 double plays in the game. Top of the 7th is underway.

Damn El Duque gives up a solo shot to Rolen. 4-1 Mets. WIllie should have pulled El Duque and have someone else start the 7th.

Heilman got us out of a jam, and Wagner closed it out. Mets take a 2-0 series lead by beating the Cards by the final score of 4-1.

Thumbs up

Mets 4, Cardinals 1

Orlando Hernandez had no strikeouts, but allowed just five hits and one run in seven innings. (Jeff Roberson/AP)

Mets:
Quote:
A healthy Orlando Hernandez can be a very good thing for the Mets. El Duque pitched seven strong innings against the Cardinals on Tuesday and contributed two hits, including a two-run double, as the Mets won their second straight game to start the season. Jose Reyes scored the first two Mets runs and notched his first stolen base.

Cardinals:
Quote:
Kip Wells looked sharp against the Mets, but two of his four runs allowed were unearned because of an error, and except for Scott Rolen's solo home run in the seventh frame, the Cardinals' bats were silent during their second straight defeat to start 2007.

Mets:
Quote:
Mets pitcher John Maine mentally prepared himself for his first full season in the rotation by telling himself he didn't have a spot, that despite two strong games in the postseason, he was starting over with no guarantees. "I still wanted to go out there (to spring training) with an edge," said Maine, who will start Wednesday night at St. Louis. "I didn't want to slow down. I wanted to use that as motivation.

The Cardinals:
Quote:
The Cardinals have had only one hit with a man in scoring position in their first two games, and even on that single by Preston Wilson, they had a runner thrown out at home. So it is little wonder that they have lost both games, although there have been other contributing factors. The Mets, gaining a bit of belated revenge for their National League Championship Series loss to the Cardinals in 2006, have turned seven double plays in the first two games of the three-game series.
