The Mets win by the final score of 6-1, the defense was on point.

Mets:

In a performance reminiscent of his gem against the Cardinals in Game 1 of the 2006 NLCS, Tom Glavine was stellar, aided by Carlos Beltran nailing David Eckstein at the plate in a key sixth-inning play. Carlos Delgado and Paul Lo Duca drove in two each, while Beltran had an RBI single.
Cardinals:

After unveiling their World Series championship flag before Sunday night's opener, the Cardinals were unable to do much against the Mets' Tom Glavine, while starter Chris Carpenter struggled in the third and fourth innings. David Eckstein drove in St. Louis' lone run.

Rather than chew sour grapes, the Mets preferred to salute the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals in ended the Mets' 2006 season the NL Championship Series, and as fate would have it, the teams met Sunday night in the first game of the new season. The night began with the Cardinals honoring their championship teams, including raising the 2006 championship banner. The Mets didn't have to watch, but David Wright was among those who did. "We've put all of that behind us," Wright said.
Cardinals:

Perhaps the Cardinals were worn out by all the pomp and circumstance involved in celebrating their 2006 World Series title when they lost to the New York Mets, 6-1, Sunday night. They had 10 hits, but missed numerous scoring opportunities. RHP Chris Carpenter was off the mark, throwing an unusually high total of 101 pitches in six innings as he gave up five of the six runs. He lost for the first time in four Opening Day starts, one of them with Toronto.

The Mets are off to a good start. Reyes walks, and Wells throws an error by trying to pick off Reyes at first, which lead to Reyes reaching 2nd base. Nice bunt by Wright to move Reyes to 3rd into scoring position. We need to hit this guy early.

Beltran with a sac fly that allows Reyes to score. 1-0 Mets at the top of the 1st inning.
