This thread will be about the mets second season in their history and there last season at the historic polo grounds.

1963 New York Mets

Here is the 1963 new york mets yearbook cover. this was the teams last season playing at the historic polo grounds. this season also was the first season for Mr Met the teams mascot.who is on the cover of the yearbook.

Here is the cover of the 1963 mets program with Mr Met on the cover.i like this cover better than the 1962 mets program with the drawing of shea stadium on it.

Here is the 1963 new york mets team photo.the photo was taken out in centerfield at the polo grounds. former dodgers star duke snider played for the mets in 1963.

Casey Stengel

Here is a nice photo of mets manager casey stengel and his wife taken on 9-18-1963 before the new york mets last game ever at the polo grounds.

In this photo from the 1963 season you see dodger and mets players at the polo grounds talking to comedian milton berle. in the photo you can see duke snider standing next to berle with sandy koufax also in the photo. snider played only 1 season for the mets.

Meet The Mets Song

Meet the mets the official song of the new york mets debuted in 1963.the song was first submitted to the mets in november of 1961.the master recording of meet the mets was made on march 1 1963 and was introduced to the public on march 9 1963.
Music and the lyrics for meet the mets was written by Ruth Roberts and Bill Katz.the original arrangement of the song was by Glenn Osser and his orchestra and chorus.the song was played before all mets games on the radio during the 1963 baseball season.and you could also here the song being played at the polo grounds after games.you could buy the 45 record at the polo grounds souvineer stands or by ordering a copy from the mail.

The 45 record sold for $1 dollar.this photo shows my meet the mets record that i won on ebay from a man who got the record 43 years ago from the polo grounds. you can also see on the front cover of the dust jacket Mr Met the mascot of the mets who also debuted during that last season at the polo grounds 1963. the dust jacket also says on the cover SOUVINEER OF THE POLO GROUNDS just like the 1963 new york mets yearbook.

6-2-1963

Here is a ticket stub from a mets doubleheader on 6-2-1963 against the pittsburgh pirates. the mets won both games of the doubleheader by the scores of 2-1 in game 1 and 4-3 in game 2. in game 1 of the DH Duke Snider hit is 9th homerun of the season for the mets. in game 2 Jim Hickman hit a game winning homerun for the mets in the 10th inning. the homerun was hickmans 6th of the year. the attendance for the games was 18,844 at the polo grounds.

4-7-1963

Here is a great photo of Duke Snider a day after he joined the new york mets in spring training.in the photo also is former dodger Gil Hodges and manager Casey Stengel.the mets are about to play baltimore in spring training.

4-9-1963 Mets Home Opener

Here is a ticket for the mets 1963 home opener at the polo grounds.this would be the last ever home opener at the polo grounds.i have the program for this game and also have this game on audio. the cardinals shutout the mets 7-0 in the game.
