one of my favorite players of all time richie whitey ashburn, was on that team, prolly the best player they had.

Here is a nice photo of casey stengel taken before the mets first home game ever on 4-13-1962. casey is standing next to the polo grounds dugout.the pirates were the last team that played at the polo grounds in 1957 when the giants left new york for san francisco.

Here is Frank Thomas one of the original 1962 mets. he played for the pittsburgh pirates in 1957 when the pirates played the giants in there last home game ever at the historic stadium.and he was there in 1962 when the polo grounds reopened for baseball again.
