Why not the best of both worlds; the performance of a wooden bat and the cost effectiveness of a metal bat?

I think the caliber of players in the major leagues using a metal bat would be scary. The speed that the ball comes of a metal bat is much faster than that of a wooden on. With the bat speed these major leaguers have the ball would shoot right through the infield really fast and line drives back to the pitchers would give the pitcher no reaction time to react.

At the Major League level, it's tradition and safety. A ball comes off an aluminum bat at 130 MPH plus (college hitter).

Don't you think with a major league hitter and the speed of the bat and ball it would be coming off there even faster?

It is a safety concern for MLB. The guys in the league are stronger and have quicker bats than those in college or Pony Leagues. The fear of increased speed of the ball of the bat has to be why they use the wooden bats in the Pros.

I agree that using metal bats in the pros would be a safety concern , especially for the pitchers. The ball coming back to the pitchers would speed up and most likely have even more line drive injuries off the pitchers than there are in baseball right now.

Wooden Bats also have a smaller sweet spot than their metal counterparts, making hitting for power tougher in the pros.

Can you imagine the distance of HR's if they used metal bats?
