Angles Angels land third baseman Freese in deal for Bourjos

Quote:
The Angels and Cardinals swapped center fielder Peter Bourjos and third baseman David Freese on Friday, as part of a four-player deal that also saw reliever Fernando Salas go to Southern California and outfield prospect Randal Grichuk move to St. Louis.

Both clubs essentially traded from positions of depth to shore up problem areas on their respective teams, with the Angels taking on an extra $4 million in salary commitments.

Bourjos, 26, is still trying to work into his prime after back-to-back seasons of limited playing time.

Freese, 30, will look to bounce back from a rough 2013.

Freese was a World Series hero in 2011 and turned in a solid 2012 campaign, batting .293/.372/.467 with 20 homers and 79 RBIs. This past season, though, his slash line dropped to .262/.340/.381, with nine homers and 60 RBIs, and he batted only .179 (10-for-56) in a Fall Classic run that ended with a loss to the Red Sox.

If I am an Angels fan I like it. Trout is no longer getting pushed around and he can play center and regain his elite defender status. Because pushing him around everywhere really hurt his leather this year. On top of he played so much better at CF than LF. Plus you just filled a hole at third with Freese who could be really good for you guys.

Yea, I'm excited to have Mr. Freese. Hopefully it works out, but I want starting pitching more than anything right now.

David growing up in St. Louis -- this could not have been the easiest place for him to play. Even though he loved being here and loved being a Cardinal, I do think he may be looking forward to a fresh start.”
Freese agreed that a “fresh start” in Anaheim might be good for him, but he did not feel as though he succumbed to the pressures of playing at home.
Must have heard it wrong

Yea, you read it wrong. He didn't choose to leave. He got traded.

He just agreed that a fresh start in Anaheim might be good for him.
