Royals concerned over Soria?

The Kansas City Star reported that the Royals need to "ramp up the concern meter" after All-Star closer Joakim Soria admitted he felt soreness again Friday in his right shoulder, one day after throwing 29 pitches in a shaky one-inning save against the Mariners.

As a result, Royals manager Trey Hillman ruled out Soria as a candidate to pitch Saturday in pregame remarks. Soria's availability to pitch Sunday will depend on how he feels when he arrives at the ballpark.

"He's a little sore," Hillman told the newspaper, "too sore for my liking, most probably, to pitch (Saturday). We'll continue to go day to day with him. But I don't have any intention of using him (Saturday) because of the soreness (Friday) from the previous day."

Hillman repeated the club's consistent view that Soria's problem is relatively minor and should dissipate through a controlled work schedule.

"Everything so far that's been checked out has checked out OK," Hillman said. "I thought (in spring training) that he was a little behind to start (in terms of game-ready conditioning)."

Closer Soria placed on disabled list | News

Soria to DL. Hochevar called up. And Ponson to the pen. Not sure I like any of this right now.

Soria to DL. Probably had to be done.

Hochevar -- They only needed to wait another week or so to delay his arbitration years.

Ponson -- Had his best start the other day and was really good.
