Series Thread - Brewers @ Astros (8/10, 8/11, 8/12)

An outsider making a thread.. wtf

Milwaukee 60 55 .522 -.-
Chi Cubs 59 55 .518 0.5
St. Louis 53 59 .473 5.5
Houston 51 63 .447 8.5
Complete Standings

Pitching Matchups:
Friday, August 10:
Dave Bush, RHP (9-8, 5.03) @ Jason Jennings, RHP (2-7, 6.11)

Scouting Report:
Brewers: Bush struggled his last time out, surrendering five earned runs in five-plus innings against the Phillies. The right-hander made the start four days after an emergency relief outing against the Mets. The last time he made an emergency bullpen appearance on June 25 against the Astros, he turned in a sub-par outing the following start as well, allowing four runs in six innings in a loss to the Cubs.

Astros:
It was an improvement, but Jennings still walked away without a win in his last start. Five days after allowing 11 runs without getting out of the first inning, Jennings took a 5-4 lead into the seventh inning against Florida. But Miguel Cabrera's solo homer on a pitch near his shoetops chased Jennings from the game and bumped him out of the decision. Jennings allowed five runs on 10 hits in six frames, striking out one and not walking a batter. He was defeated by the Brewers in his other meeting this season, allowing three runs in seven innings.

Saturday, August 11:
Jeff Suppan, RHP (8-9, 4.84) @ Wandy Rodriguez, LHP (7-10, 4.50)

Scouting Report:
Brewers: Suppan turned in his second consecutive stellar outing when he held the Phillies to just one run in 5 2/3 innings on Sunday. Suppan faced one batter over the minimum through the first four innings and gave up five hits and a walk overall. The right-hander has lowered his ERA from 5.08 to 4.84 in his last two starts.

Astros:
Rodriguez will likely start this one on his regular four days' rest. The young lefty continued his staggering and unusual 2007 campaign on Monday, rebounding from yet another poor road start this week with another outstanding start at Minute Maid Park. He pitched eight strong innings, allowing one run on four hits against the Cubs. He seemed to get stronger as the game went on, striking out the side against the heart of the Cubs order in the eighth inning.

Sunday, August 12:
Claudio Vargas, RHP (9-4, 4.97) @ Woody Williams, RHP (6-12, 5.21)

Scouting Report:
Brewers: Vargas was tagged for six runs on seven hits in the first two innings on Monday at Colorado, a start that usually would have prompted a call to the bullpen. But with the Brewers' relief corps taxed, the team was forced to stick with Vargas and he delivered five more scoreless innings, a stunning turnaround and a frustrating one, since the Brewers' offense couldn't mount a comeback against Josh Fogg. Vargas set two season highs: He allowed 12 hits and threw 118 pitches.

Astros: Because of Thursday's off day, Matt Albers will be skipped in the rotation and Williams will throw Sunday on his regular four days of rest. Williams recovered from early trouble in his start this past Tuesday against the Cubs and pitched very well, yielding one run on four hits in his six innings. With one exception, he's been very solid since the All-Star break and seems to be overcoming the location issues that plagued him for much of the first half. Against the Brewers this season, he's scattered five earned runs over 12 innings in two starts, with the Astros losing both games.

Brian, that's a lot more detailed than the GameDay thread I would have done so -- thanks! Jump in anytime!

I just hope that Jennings does better tonight than I expect him too (read that - than his last start!) Hey, it can't get much worse!!
