Keeper league rules

Hi everyone. I am running a Keeper league this year and it is our first year with "keeper rules". I am just trying to get everyone opinions and suggestions on the rules we have set in place for the up coming season. This year is important to get the rules right as it is our first year.

Each team can keep 2 players at any position. You have 6 years of allowable signings and the most years you can sign a player for is 3 each. If you sign a player for 3 years and the next season you decide to release him, you will not be able to keep another player until his original contract has expired. Once the players original contract is up he will go in to the next seasons draft. If you sign a player to a one year contract you CAN NOT extend his contract the next year, what you sign a player for is final.

Let me know on your thoughts and suggestions.
Thanks,
Adam

I, personally, have never been a fan of contract-style keeper leagues. They are more realistic, as poorly thought out contracts do have prohibitive consequences... but I feel that it becomes a litte bit too extreme. Part of the fun of keeper leagues is taking flyers on prospects, sleepers, and the like - contracts prevent that.

If you raised the keepers to four or five with max contracts of two that would provide for more fun and thought and strategy, in my opinion. Ideally, though, I wouldn't use contracts.
