Tigers First-place Tigers aren't taking Royals for granted

Quote:
There aren't many Tigers remaining from the 2009 team that collapsed down the stretch, ending with a one-game tiebreaker loss to the Twins. That fall began in Kansas City, where Detroit had a 6 1/2-game lead in the American League Central with four weeks to go before they were swept by the Royals.

The Tigers that are still around, however, have made sure that lesson hasn't escaped their memory. With 3 1/2 weeks left in the regular season, they know better than to overlook games or teams.

"It's all about winning games," reigning AL MVP Miguel Cabrera said recently, repeating what has become his mantra over the second half.

Anibal Sanchez, who leads the AL with a 2.68 ERA, will take the hill on Friday night for the Tigers. After giving up two or fewer runs in seven straight starts, he's allowed seven runs on 11 hits in 11 2/3 innings over his past two outings.

Tigers

Every game counts, whether it's at the beginning of the season or at the end! However, we've reached that point in the regular season when a single slip-up can make a big difference, because there's no time left to recover.
The Tigers (literally) just have to keep their eye on the ball, and they'll make it to the playoffs. LET'S GO, DETROIT!

This is the first time i've ever felt this, but I truly believe this is the Tigers year to win the World Series.

Me too! I said soon after the World Series last year that 2013 would be the Tigers' year... and I still think that!
The Tigers came *this* close last year [*holds thumb and forefinger together*]; this year they can go one step further!

We're five games ahead with six games to go; we can't afford to lose another game, especially since the Indians have won 9 out of their last 11. All we need is to win two when they lose two, and we'll be division champions. (I think that's right! I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong, JV! )
