Will the Rockies contend in 2012?

The team was suppose to contend with the Giants in 2011 and we all know what happened there, but will they comeback next season and contend with the other west teams?

Maybe, they are going to have to wait and see how good both Alex White and Drew Pomeranz pitch. They are both top notch pitching prospects and both have great potential at becoming legit starters.

Just so you can see what I am talking about. I will post their Minor league numbers since they both have less than 10 starts in the MLB.

Drew Pomeranz: 4-3 1.78 ERA.

What amazed me about him is his K/9. Averaging 10.6. He doesn't walk many either. Only 38 in 101 IP; which equals out to a WHIP a tad over one.

Alex White: 2-1 1.80 ERA

White is another guy that is a control freak. He only pitched 40 innings in the minors but only allowed SIX walks, crazy.

So if these two guys can pitch the way the Rockies hope they can; they have two legit starters that will be able to compete. They have the offense with guys like Tulowitski, and Gonzales. They just need to play more consistent.

How far away are those two pitchers from being in the Rockies rotation?

They both pitched a few games in September. Didn't have the greatest of starts. Who knows how they do next year when they both getting starting reps. Sometimes spot starts can be miss-leading.

So if they both have good Springs they could be in the bigs from the beginning of the season in 2012?

I think they both will be in the MLB next year at the start regardless. The Rockies really don't have the best of pitching staffs at the moment. When they traded away Jimenez they were trying to get as many MLB ready prospects as they could so they could be used ASAP to help them compete. White and Pomeranz are both that. They both already got called up in September, and I am guessing they both will be in the rotation so they can start getting better and developing into two studs that they hope they are.

Like I said, the Rockies staff wasn't that good. There really isn't anyone who was in their current rotation or had a starting spot that if they got moved, people would start havoc. There are voids in it and luckily they have two guys ready to start learning and ready to go.

Hopefully they can solidify that rotation with Ubaldo being gone.

Personally, I think the Rockies robbed the Indians blind. Come back to this thread in three years and you will know what I am talking about.

Jimenez didn't seem like the same pitcher this year as he was in the past.

Ding, ding, ding!! We have a winner! What did the Indians do? They traded away their TWO BEST prospects. Now if Jimenez doesn't pitch how they hope they do, the Indians not only screwed up their farm system but just screwed themselves to be winners in the future.
