Rockies shopping Torrealba, Baker

The Denver Post reported that the Rockies are shopping catcher Yorvit Torrealba and utilityman Jeff Baker.

Rockies scouts have asked other teams if they need a catcher, acknowledging that Torrealba remains available in light of Sal Fasano's encouraging spring.

The Rockies shopped Torrealba hard this winter, but found no one interested in absorbing the remaining $4 million on his contract. Colorado wanted a catcher in return so it would have a backup for Chris Iannetta.

If not traded, Baker will make the Rockies as an utilityman, the newspaper added. Third base is his natural position, and where he makes sense for suitors. But he hasn't played there yet this spring as he recovers from elbow soreness.
