Brandon Phillips on Injury: "I thought it was broken"
Updated June 4th: After Brandon Phillips and his Cincinnati Reds have guided into 2nd place in their division with a 36-22 record, the right-handed second baseman has been sidelined after a ball struck his forearm, putting on a bruise that will likely keep out the 31-year old out for three days.
Phillips received the injury on Saturday, after being hit by a pitch for the second time in the week.
"I though it was broken." Phillips told MLB today, which was shared via Twitter.
Tempers flew after Phillips took the second hit, as the likelihood of it being intentiol was in the minds of everyone on the field. Ace Mat Latos took the matter into his own hands the next day, beaning Pittsburgh second baseman, Neil Walker, with an early 4-0 lead. However, Latos' payback came belated, as Phillips was already sitting on the shelf.
Despite the crushing 4-0 lead the Reds held early in the game, the Pirates were able to come back and take it in a dramatic 11th inning. It's likely that the 45 RBI hitter would have made a difference in the result of the game.
