Reds Jim Edmonds to Retire?

Quote:
Reds GM Walt Jocketty expects Jim Edmonds to retire rather than return for a 17th season.
"Jay (Bruce) talked to him the other day," Jocketty said. "Hes probably going to retire." After taking a year off, Edmonds batted .276/.342/.504 this past season with 11 home runs in 246 at-bats for the Brewers and Reds. He had been open to returning if he could find a job as a backup first baseman, but it looks like he's going to hang up his cleats. If he does, he'll finish seven homers short of 400 and one RBI short of 1,200.

Jim is 40 years old and his skills have been diminishing since 08'. I will always remember that over the shoulder diving catch. He was one of the best CF's in the game in the 90's and early 2000's. I can see why he wants to retire, and I think he is making the right choice.

I got to witness him play, when he played for Anaheim. He would sign autographs for the children for hours, a true class act.

Yes I had always heard what a nice guy he is. But still he is so close to some important numbers that it is a shame he won't make those!
