Whitesox High-octane White Sox throttle Indians

Quote:
For a second straight day, the White Sox offense was present and powerful at Progressive Field.

Not 15 runs worth of power as exhibited in an Opening Day pummeling of the Indians. But five runs scored over the first two innings were enough for Edwin Jackson and the White Sox to cruise to an 8-3 victory. The win gave the South Siders their first 2-0 start overall and their first 2-0 start on the road since 2005.

The White Sox increased their winning streak to six straight in Cleveland and improved to 8-1 in their last nine games against the Indians. Jackson raised his career ledger to 8-1 against Cleveland and jumped to 4-0 in seven career starts at Progressive Field.Carlos Carrasco had a decent finish for the Indians, but his start against the potent White Sox attack was as weak as Fausto Carmona on Friday. The White Sox sent five batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring once on Paul Konerko's sacrifice fly, but every one of those five hitters crushed the baseball off the right-hander.

Those hard-hit balls found a little space in the second, as the White Sox scored four times. Alexei Ramirez singled home a run, Adam Dunn's groundout scored another and Gordon Beckham's bases-loaded single off the right-field wall brought home two more. Beckham's two hits in the first two innings gave him five hits in his first six at-bats this season.

But Beckham's start would be considered tepid in comparison to Carlos Quentin. The right fielder, who was a true 2008 American League Most Valuable Player candidate before fracturing a bone in his wrist in September, knocked out two more doubles on Saturday. His second double, traveling to right-center off reliever Chad Durbin, scored Konerko and Alex Rios to give the White Sox a little cushion in the seventh.

Through two games, Quentin has one home run, three doubles and seven RBIs.

Jackson needed 99 pitches to work six innings, striking out seven, walking four and giving up two earned runs on five hits. He had just a pair of 1-2-3 innings, but held the Indians to 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
