Cubs Cubs chairman puts Z's fate in Epstein's hands

Quote:
In September, Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts said he had a hard time imagining Carlos Zambrano returning to the team after the pitcher's early exit in August. But Theo Epstein, the Cubs' president of baseball operations, is giving Zambrano an opportunity to earn his way back. Ricketts said Tuesday he will defer to Epstein.

"What Theo said publicly is he's willing to give Carlos a chance to earn his way back on the team," Ricketts said. "It's [Epstein's] decision, and I support it 100 percent."

Zambrano has made three starts for Caribes in the Venezuelan Winter League, but was sidelined after taking a line drive off his face in his last start on Nov. 18. He may return to the mound next week.

If I was Epstein I'd let this headcase go.

He has a lot of money left on his contract. Hard to get rid of a player that has a lot of money left and hasn't pitched much because of his temper.
