Mike Timlin [stats] was put on the 15-day disabled list before last night’s game against the Dodgers, allowing the
Red Sox [team stats] to pare their roster to 25 after special provisions were made by Major League Baseball for the two games vs. Oakland in Tokyo earlier this week.
The Sox carried 27 active players last Tuesday and Wednesday in Japan, which was one fewer than was permitted, and got down to 26 by optioning Brandon Moss to Triple-A Pawtucket following the second game.
Timlin hasn’t pitched since March 19, when he suffered a cut on the tip of his right ring finger when he was struck by a bouncing ball. The veteran right-hander was placed on the DL retroactively, which could make him eligible to return as early as Friday, when the Sox open a three-game series in Toronto.
