Legends vs. Modern Players

Who do you think would win between the legends of baseball or the baseball players we have now-a-days. Personally, I think the players of today would win. The game has changed and it probably better suits today's players. That's my opinion.

What do you guys think?

That depends:

Are we taking the Legends from their time in their prime and putting them against Modern players in this time in their prime? Or are we re-creating Babe Ruth, for example, and having him play with the modern advantages of surgery, medicine, etc.?

If it's the former, probably the modern players. If it's the latter, probably the legends.

From their time in the prime to the players now in the their primes.

Good pitching has always beaten good hitting. In every era.
So, I'm trying to think of which of today's hitters would do really well against guys like Koufax, Gibson, Carlton, Tiant,
Marichal, the Perrys, when they were in their primes.
I can't think of any of today's hitters who would hit for
their current average against the best pitchers of just a
few decades ago.

In my mind, Pedro Martinez, Greg Maddux, Roger Clemens, and Randy Johnson are just as good as Koufax, Gibson, Carlton, and Seaver, for example. Pitchers nowadays throw harder than ever, which could devastate the legends.

Whenever you look at the facts of way back when and today you see that the distance from the mound to the plate has changed which is just right because men now days are much bigger and stronger, and back then it was a shorter distance which was just right because men back then were smaller than they are today so they were great for their time. If they were in todays baseball they would probably play a lot different with all of the changes to the field. EXAMPLE: The pitchers would obviously be throwing a bit slower and less accurate due to the change in distance. The hitters timing would be thrown off. For the fielders it would probably be a bit uncomfortable with such a big field.

I agree with Dom on this one. Our pitchers are just as good of those in the past.

The mound has been 60'6" from home plate since 1893. The mound has been raised or lowered over time, but it's been "regulated" since 1968 or so.

Hmmmmmm....I thought that I read differently. However, there is still fact about the bigger field and changes to the game.
