Grimsley's salary settlement is finalized

Jason Grimsley got his money from the Diamondbacks, but as he previously requested and as was subsequently agreed to in a settlement, the remaining $504,000 of his 2006 salary is being dispersed to four charitable causes, including the Diamondbacks Foundation.

Grimsley's agent, Joe Bick, said Tuesday his client's settlement was officially reached last Tuesday and cited that $278,500 would be split between Garth Brooks' Teammates for Kids Foundation and Grimsley's church, Christ Community, in Leawood, Kan. The other $225,500 will go to Drug-Free Arizona and the Diamondbacks Foundation.

Grimsley, a former relief pitcher for the team, was released by Arizona in June after admitting to federal agents he used illegal performance-enhancing drugs. The Diamondbacks didn't want to pay him the rest of his contract, but after Bick and the Major League Baseball Players Association threatened a grievance, the matter was resolved with the settlement.
