Redsox Mets divided on signing Stephen Drew

The New York Mets have already been more active this offseason than they have in the past few years combined, signing both Curtis Granderson and Bartolo Colon to multiyear deal, and they might not be done.

The team is still trying to decide how valuable shortstop Stephen Drew is to the team compared to Ruben Tejada, who the Mets are preparing to be the regular starting shortstop next season is they don't sign someone else to play over him, sources told's Adam Rubin.

Sources also told Rubin that the Mets have remained engaged with Drew's agent, Scott Boras, but also said that Drew is more of a "possibility" than a "probability" for them.

At this point, the Mets would be more comfortable offering Drew a one- or two-year deal, and are trying to stay away from anything three-years or beyond.

The Mets' first round pick for next season is top ten protected, and they have already given up their second round pick to the New York Yankees for signing Granderson. Drew declined a qualifying offer from the Boston Red Sox, meaning he would also cost them a draft pick -- their third round pick.
