Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera was held out of the starting lineup on Tuesday after aggravating a bothersome left hip flexor muscle on Monday night.
"He's not playing. I'll leave it at that," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "He's not playing tonight. That's all I can tell you."
The Tigers skipper declined to comment on the prospect of Cabrera landing on the disabled list, or the concern moving forward. Don Kelly was playing third base and left fielder Matt Tuiasosopo was batting third against the White Sox.
Cabrera entered the day leading the Majors with a .358 batting average, and was in the top two in the American League's three Triple Crown categories (second in home runs with 31, and second in RBIs with 96).
