Lead runner rounding third in 8U
Hi all,
I have a very inexperienced 8U team.
The problem I debating with myself is when my SS or 2nd baseman has the ball and the lead runner is rounding third. I can either let the runner score and stop the hitter at first or throw to home and risk the hitter making second or third.
I am leaning towards only trying the play home only at the end of close games and focus on setting up future outs by keeping the runner at first and letting them score from third. We have not been able to execute the throw home well in practice.
Is this a sound decision? This is my son's first year in 8U, so not sure what the normal play would be for this age group.
Any thoughts appreciated!
Chris
