The Royals signed outfielder Alex Gordon to a multiyear contract through 2015, with a player option for the 2016 campaign, the club announced Friday.
The deal is worth a guaranteed $37.5 million, according to a source, and the option could raise the total value to $50 million. Gordon will make $6 million in 2012, $9 million in '13, $10 million in '14 and $12.5 million in the final guaranteed year, the source said.
Gordon, 28, hit .303 with 23 homers, 87 RBIs and 101 runs in 151 games for Kansas City last year. He led the Majors with 20 outfield assists, which helped him earn his first Gold Glove Award.
