Rockies Disabled list becoming bloated with big arms

Quote:
When Rockies ace Ubaldo Jimenez was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday morning because of a cuticle cut on his right thumb, Colorado manager Jim Tracy wasn't the only one around the Major Leagues going into serious nail-biting mode.

In fact, Cubs skipper Mike Quade had to be bumming on Wednesday when two of his starters, right-handers Andrew Cashner and Randy Wells, were placed on the DL. That necessitated a complete overhaul of the back end of Chicago's rotation and served as yet another example of a particularly prickly pitching problem popping up around the Major Leagues.

The spring and early part of 2011 has been marked by what is starting to feel like an epidemic of injuries to starting pitchers. Rotations are being ravaged on a daily basis, it seems, and front offices and managers are scrambling to make sense of it all as the standings are just beginning to take shape.
Jimenez, who won 19 games last year, threw a no-hitter, and finished third in the National League Cy Young Award voting, is the latest No. 1 casualty for a bona fide contender. Unfortunately, he's only one of a growing list of ailing arms -- and legs -- that includes proven Cy Young contenders, veteran rotation cogs capable of leaping into the Cy conversation, young pitchers with the stuff to dominate lineups and reliable back-end horses.

Here are updated details on the most prominent injured starting pitchers in baseball:
