BEIJING (AP) -- Baseball and softball got a chance to make their pitch to be reinstated as Olympic sports on Wednesday.

Speaking before a room filled with International Olympic Committee members, the leaders of international baseball and softball gave presentations to the Association of National Olympic Committees.

Baseball and softball will both be played at the Beijing Games but have been removed from the program for London in 2012.

The first chance for reinstatement will come in October 2009 at an IOC meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark, when the IOC decides on the program for the 2016 games.

Harvey Schiller, an American who took over as president of the International Baseball Federation a year ago, showed a video that highlighted several famous baseball movies including "Field of Dreams" and "The Natural."

He also tried to downplay the doping problem in baseball.

it'd be a massive shame if it doesn't get reinstated...c'mon IOC!!!

is anyone actually making the trip to see the games? i'm pretty keen and if anyone else is and needs some sorta guide, i found this pretty comprehensive one that has heaps of good info. check it out here if interested
