Nationals at the plate: Catcher Jesus Flores hit a rocket of a home run in the fifth inning, clearing the wall in center field. In the seventh, center fielder Ryan Church doubled, then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a passed ball. The team was aggressive on the basepaths for the second day in a row, attempting to steal twice getting thrown out both times.

Flores looks to be a really solid backup catcher and may be the starter by next year with Schneider as trade bait for some solid pitching prospects.

Nationals on the mound: John Patterson, the team's No. 1 pitcher, threw 6 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and two runs, one earned. He struck out four and walked two. Patterson will make his next appearance on Opening Day in Washington. Saul Rivera relieved Patterson and finished the seventh with no additional runs allowed.

Rivera is likely the front runner for the final bullpen spot and may have locked it up today. Patterson looks like he will have a very good season if he can stay healthy the whole year.
