LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Nationals trimmed their roster to 30 on Sunday. They reassigned infielders D'Angelo Jimenez and Joe Thurston, left-hander Mike Bacsik and catcher Juan Brito to Minor League camp.
They also optioned right-handed pitcher Joel Hanrahan to Triple-A Columbus and outrighted pitchers Tim Redding, Billy Traber and Jermaine Van Buren to Columbus.
Eliminating Jimenez and Thurston means that infielder Josh Wilson has made the 25-man roster. After a slow start, Wilson clearly outperformed Jimenez and Thurston, hitting .366 with four RBIs. Jimenez was decent with the bat, but he made a team-leading five errors. With a .211 average in 13 games, Thurston didn't hit enough to make the big-league roster.
"Josh is on the 40-man roster and out of options. He played very well," manager Manny Acta said. "We didn't want to take any chances of [placing Wilson on waivers]. He is a valuable backup guy, and he earned it."

Starting ST i didn't think that Josh Wilson was a serious contender to make the club and didn't appear he would at first but he heated up after a realtively slow start to prove many people wrong.
I am curious to see if he takes priority over Belliard as the reserve utility infielder to start the season.
