Scouting Report:
Blue Jays: Toronto signed Ohka to a one-year, $1.5 million deal in January. Last year with Milwaukee, the right-handed native of Kyoto, Japan, was limited to 18 starts due to a shoulder injury, but he didn't require surgery. Ohka is 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA in five career outings against the Devil Rays. Devil Rays: Fossum struggled with his health in 2006 and the difference could be seen on the night's he felt good as opposed to the nights when he didn't. He had shoulder surgery in September and seems to have found the missing zip and movement to his fastball. He should make a successful return to the rotation. He depends a great deal on the strikeout, so the key to his performance is usually reflected in his strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Thomas' shot slams Devil Rays

ST. PETERSBURG -- At the time, Frank Thomas' grand slam seemed like a perfect nail in Tampa Bay's coffin. It turned out to be more of a necessity than anything during Toronto's 7-5 win on Saturday night. Thomas picked the best time for his first homer of the season: full count, two outs and the bases loaded. His ninth career grand slam settled into the left-field bleachers, pushed Toronto's lead to 6-1 in the second inning and gave Jays starter Tomo Ohka a little breathing room.
It turned out they'd need every bit of it, as Ohka allowed the Rays to score four runs in the fourth -- three with a Brendan Harris homer, and another when B.J. Upton scampered home from third on a wild pitch.
Ohka left the game after 4 1/3 innings, having thrown 83 pitches (49 for strikes). He allowed six hits, five earned runs and three walks. Two of the hits were home runs.
Vernon Wells' line-drive sacrifice fly to center knocked in Reed Johnson, who'd reached base after being hit by a pitch for the second consecutive evening. Toronto added another run the same inning when Upton, the Rays' second baseman, bobbled a throw while trying to anchor an inning-ending double play.
Reed Johnson doubled in Royce Clayton in the fourth inning for Toronto's other run.
