Scouting Report:
Blue Jays: Chacin was limited to 17 starts a year ago due to an elbow injury. Still, the left-hander won nine games and improved to 23-14 in his career as a starter for Toronto. Chacin is 0-0 with a 3.78 ERA in three career starts versus Detroit. In his only career start at Comerica Park, the southpaw gave up two runs over seven innings.
Tigers: Verlander's sophomore season begins after racking up 17 wins and the American League Rookie of the Year award last year. He started off last season with seven scoreless innings at Texas, the first of seven victories in his first 10 starts to take the national spotlight. He tired down the stretch last year as his fastball lost its pop, but the Tigers believe a winter of rest should allow him to hold up for the long haul. He has never faced the Blue Jays.
