DETROIT -- Ted Lilly's tenure with the Blue Jays could be coming to a close. When the left-hander took the mound on Wednesday at Comerica Park, it marked his final start this season for Toronto.
The next pitch will be from the Blue Jays, who surely will offer the free-agent-to-be another contract. In all likelihood, though, Lilly will entertain offers from other clubs in an attempt to secure a multiyear deal.
If Lilly, who is making $4 million this season, opts to pitch elsewhere, it would leave a hole in Toronto's rotation for 2007. On Wednesday, Lilly was aiming for his 15th win, and finding another pitcher with that potential at a similar price could prove to be a difficult task this offseason.
