There are two World Series championship banners that hang high in the rafters inside the Rogers Centre. There was just one Toronto player who was at the forefront of each title's final moment.
In 1992, Joe Carter caught the final out of the Blue Jays' first World Series -- a six-game series win over the Braves. One year later, Carter bounced around the base paths after launching a walk-off homer off Philadelphia's Mitch Williams, clinching the second straight Fall Classic crown for Toronto.
Now, 13 years later, fans have named Carter as Toronto's "Hometown Hero." On Tuesday, ESPN revealed the first 10 recipients of the Major League Baseball Hometown Heroes Award, presented by DHL. Nearly 17 million fans cast votes from July 18-Sept. 17 to elect a former or current player as the one star who best represents the legacy of each franchise's history.
