TORONTO -- Roy Halladay may have thrown his last pitch this season. The Blue Jays ace cut his outing short after feeling tightness in his right forearm in the fourth inning against the Yankees on Wednesday night.
After New York outfielder Bernie Williams fouled off a 2-1 offering from Halladay, the pitcher stepped off the mound and was quickly met by Toronto pitching coach Brad Arnsberg and head trainer George Poulis. A brief discussion was followed by a trip to the trainer's room by Halladay, who saw his outing end after just 45 pitches.
Halladay also experienced a forearm strain in April and was forced to miss one turn in the rotation. Considering that the former American League Cy Young Award winner only had two scheduled starts left after Wednesday, it doesn't seem likely that he'll take the mound again this season for Toronto.
"I would doubt he would pitch any more," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "It seems to me that there would be no need to."
