TORONTO -- Lyle Overbay wasn't sure he could do it. When Toronto's first baseman was starting out at the University of Nevada, he doubted his ability to succeed at the collegiate level.
"I had never faced that kind of pitching, and I didn't know if I was ready," said Overbay, standing by his temporary locker inside the visitors' clubhouse at Safeco Field in Seattle on Wednesday.
It got to the point where Overbay even approached his head coach, Gary Powers, about possibly leaving the university. Overbay was contemplating a transfer to a lower level -- possibly a junior college closer to his home in Washington state.
Overbay remembers exactly how his coach reacted to the idea.
