It may not be at the top of his off-season to-do list, but Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi knows he has his work cut out for him assembling a catching duo for 2007.
That's not to say Bengie Molina or Gregg Zaun won't be in the picture again in 2007. Both have expressed a desire to come back -- Zaun said he would like to retire a Blue Jay -- but the combination of financial restrictions and the players' respective wish lists particularly when it comes to playing time would make both returning very unlikely.
The Jays have a $7.5-million US option on Molina for next season or he becomes a free agent. No decision has been made on that option.
Zaun's deal is up at the end of the season and would have to be re-signed or he, too, becomes a free agent.
