Default Greer joins Rangers HOF

Rusty Greer was honored by the only team he ever played for Saturday, when he became the 10th inductee into the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame.

Flanked by fellow Texas Hall of Famers Jim Sundberg, John Wetteland and Ferguson Jenkins as well as more than a dozen other former Rangers, Greer was lauded for a career that spanned from 1994-2004.

The lefthanded gap hitter was part of three American League West Division championship-winning teams in 1996, 1998 and 1999. In a four-year period between 1996-99, Greer hit .315 while averaging 20 home runs, 105 runs scored and 99 RBI.

"Tonight was a culmination of 10 years of hard work, good teams, good teammates and good coaches and managers," Greer said following the ceremony that was highlighted by a videotaped message from former Rangers general manager and current Milwaukee Brewers GM Doug Melvin and a congratulatory letter from the wife of late Rangers manager Johnny Oates.

"As a player, you need affirmation, and this lets me know I did something right," Greer said.

Congrats to Rusty. I was at Arlington the weekend of the first Induction ceremony which had Oates, Ryan, and two others.

BTW, moved to Rangers section.
