Default Baltimore O's at Texas Rangers

Friday, July 6
BAL Jeremy Guthrie, RHP (4-2, 2.63) Orioles (37-47)
TEX Kameron Loe, RHP (5-6, 5.72) Rangers (36-49)

Scouting Report:
Orioles: Guthrie allowed only four hits in his last start, but two of them were home runs and he picked up his first loss since June 24. The outing also marked the first time all season Guthrie surrendered more than two homers and more than four runs. Nevertheless, he looked very strong in all but one of his eight innings and threw past the seventh inning for the ninth time in his last 10 starts. The outstanding rookie's 2.63 ERA in six June starts is second-best in the American League.

Rangers: Loe won his fourth consecutive game Sunday at Boston allowing six hits, one run with one strikeout over six innings. He has a 1.95 ERA in his past four starts. Lifetime against the Orioles, Loe has four relief appearances, giving up five hits, one run with six strikeouts over six innings. His one career save came against Baltimore.

Saturday, July 7
BAL Erik Bedard, LHP (6-4, 3.67)
TEX Brandon McCarthy, RHP (4-5, 6.17)

Scouting Report:
Orioles: After an outstanding June in which Bedard notched a 2.61 ERA over five starts, he was victimized by the long ball in his last appearance, against the White Sox on Monday. He allowed three home runs for the first time this season and left after giving up six runs on five hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings. He did manage to strike out five batters in a no-decision, adding to his Major League-leading total of 134 K's. The game marked only the fifth time in 18 starts this year that Bedard wasn't able to pitch through the sixth inning. He has rebounded well from bad outings, though, and is a better pitcher than he showed in Chicago.

Rangers: McCarthy came off the disabled list on Monday and lost to the Boston Red Sox, 7-3, as he allowed four runs in 3 2/3 innings. It was only his second start since May 25. Prior to Monday's appearance he was 3-0 with a 3.26 ERA in six starts. He is 2-1 with a 6.30 ERA in five starts at home. He has made two relief appearances in his career against the Orioles, allowing four runs in two innings.

Sunday, July 8
BAL Daniel Cabrera, RHP (6-9, 5.15)
TEX Kevin Millwood, RHP (5-7, 6.54)

Scouting Report:
Orioles: Cabrera is 1-3 with a 6.39 ERA in his last five starts and will try to end his first half on a strong note. The right-hander left his last start as the Major League leader in walks (56) and hasn't been able to shake the control problems that have dogged him. He also led the league in walks and wild pitches last year. Cabrera, one of the league's hardest throwers, may eventually move to a relief role.

Rangers: Millwood had his best outing of the season Tuesday against the Angels, going a season-high eight innings while allowing five hits, two runs (both earned) with four strikeouts and no walks. In his last three starts, he is 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA, all quality starts. Lifetime against the Orioles, Millwood is 5-2 with a 4.13 ERA in eight games, all starts, including two complete games.

Hopefully win one more series before the break.

Loe should get his 5th win if he continues to have command of his pitches, but McCarthy is almost certain to drop his start. Millwood is a toss up since nobody knows which Millwood would show up.... hopefully the winner.

Shame that Gagne blew the save tonight. Either way, we got the win and hopefully like you said, we can take one more to take the series.

And by the way, glad to see another Rangers fan on here!

The three starters all gave excellent effort in the series. It's almost amazing watching the starting pitcher ERA drop game-to-game.

Yeah, Gagne blew that safe on a great outing by Loe. Loe totally deserved a win from it.
