"I'm glad I took this job," the Tigers manager said two days before the end of spring training. "I'm glad I'm here. I hope the players are."

No vote ever was taken about that, but it would have been close to unanimous.

They were. They are. They will be again next year -- because Tigers baseball no longer is a laughingstock.
