Devil Rays Minor League pitcher Erik Walker is missing after a boating accident on the New River near the state line separating Virginia and North Carloina on Saturday.
According to a report in Monday's Charlotte Observer, Walker, 23, and a companion were riding rapids when their canoe flipped.
A dive team will continue the search on Monday approximately eight miles southwest of Independence, Va., after dozens of teams searched on Saturday and Sunday.
"Obviously, the situation is not looking good," Julia Dixon, spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries told the Charlotte Observer. "The water temperatures at night are very cold."
Walker's companion safely made it to shore without injury and called for help.
Walker, who attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, was drafted in the 20th round by the Rays in this year's First-Year Player Draft. He went 3-1 with a 0.48 ERA and seven saves in 20 appearances for Hudson Valley of the New York-Penn League.
