The pitchers were a fellow named Boof and a guy called Corky. But no, Monday's game between the Devil Rays and Twins at Tropicana Field wasn't a croquet match.
It was playoff-intense baseball, or as close as the Rays usually get this time of year. And the team with playoff aspirations won it, 2-1, when Minnesota's Rondell White launched a two-run home run in the seventh inning off Tampa Bay's Tim Corcoran.
That made a winner of St. Petersburg native and Gibbs High product Boof Bonser, a 24-year-old rookie making his first appearance in front of the home folks at the Trop.
