At this point, it's unexplainable.
When things are going this poorly - as they are right now for the Devil Rays on the road - it seems like nothing goes your way.
That's when the ball pops out of your center fielder's glove when he hits the wall and it becomes the tying run. That's when you open an inning with runners on first and third and no outs, but fail to score a single run. That's when you're forced to deal with the fallout of another walk-off loss, slowly sulking off the field as the other team celebrates, unable - helpless - to stop a skid that shows no sign of halting.
But that's the way it's happened for the Devil Rays, who lost their 18th out of 19 games on the road since the break in a 5-4 loss to the Orioles on Sunday. With the defeat, the Rays were swept out of Baltimore with their ninth straight loss on the road and fourth loss overall.
Sunday's setback had its own unique script of weird moments, but it ended like 47 of Tampa Bay's 49 losses - with the Rays blowing another lead.
