They dont wanna call up Brett Wallace yet *Sigh* so we're gonna have to do something to improve the 3rd base situation.. it was nice when Thurston and Barden held their own and maybe they'll snap out of it but we cant continue going with that combo if we wanna remain a playoff contender
Cards wary of bad news about Glaus
05/27/2009
MILWAUKEE — The Cardinals are preparing a search for a righthanded-hitting third baseman or outfielder given what they expect to be a pessimistic report about third baseman Troy Glaus.
General manager John Mozeliak admitted Tuesday that a "gut feeling" tells him "probably less than a 50-50 chance" exists that Glaus will return this season from surgery in January to repair a muscle supporting his right shoulder.
"In fairness I'm speaking more from the gut or the heart," Mozeliak said. "It seems if he were getting better or improving to where he was getting closer to doing some baseball activities we would be getting more feedback.
"I'm not hearing that. So as I sit here today and we're talking about defending our offense and what's going on, part of the equation why we are where we are, I still don't have an answer."
Cleveland Indians third baseman Mark DeRosa and Colorado Rockies third baseman Garrett Atkins are available. Both are pending free agents with high salaries. Mozeliak would not rule out acquiring a righthanded-hitting outfielder if the third-base market proved elusive.
