Carpenter exits with arm injury
Cards right-hander strains right triceps on 66th pitch vs. Cubs
By Matthew Leach / MLB.com

Quote:
CHICAGO -- Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter was removed from Sunday night's game against the Cubs due to a right triceps strain.

Carpenter, making his third start since returning from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, cruised through the first five innings before running into trouble and then coming down with some sort of injury in the sixth. On his 66th pitch of the game, an 0-1 offering to Jim Edmonds, Carpenter yanked the pitch well inside and immediately summoned catcher Yadier Molina to the mound.

Lets hope its not too serious..

I'm on deadline for the column and don't have much time right now, but:

Carpenter is encouraged. He came to the clubhouse and put the arm and the shoulder through exercises. There was no pain, not even the triceps.

"I did everything to test it," he said. "And there was no soreness."

He plans to throw his bullpen session on Tuesday -- unless something changes.

Said La Russa: "Maybe we'll catch a break."

Carp’s Soreness Sending Him Back to STL
By Derrick Goold

MIAMI — Cardinals starter Chris Carpenter will return to St. Louis on Tuesday morning to meet with team doctors about the pain in his right arm that forced him out of Sunday night’s game after 66 pitches, a team official confirmed Monday.

Carpenter came to Dolphin Stadium this afternoon, met with the team’s trainers and had a closed-door meeting with manager Tony La Russa. Afterward, Carpenter said the right arm — specifically in the triceps area — was “still a little sore”. But he added that the plan, at that time, was for him to throw a bullpen here Tuesday and then determine if he could make his next scheduled start, on Friday. After an additional set of meetings with team officials, that plan changed.

Carpenter will return to St. Louis on Tuesday meet with Dr. George Paletta there to determine the next step for the righthander. The team felt the discomfort was enough — especially this close to Carpenter returning from last summer’s Tommy John surgery – that the doctor should have a first-hand look before Carpenter attempts to throw.

* Carp isn't here, travel issues, may not see the doc until late tonight...

* no way he'll start Friday...

* some suspicion that this is worse than what they are letting on (of course).

* waino now being told to prepare as a starter -- not for Friday, but for a return next week. he'll increase pitch count by 20 or so next rehab start.

St. Louis Cardinals righthander Chris Carpenter will miss his next start after an MRI Tuesday confirmed a muscle strain in the back of his pitching shoulder.

The announcement was made following Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to the Florida Marlins. Carpenter was scheduled to start Friday against Cincinnati. The Cardinals did not announce who will start in his place.

The team announced there is no rotator cuff damage and Carpenter will rejoin the team in Florida for treatment.
