Default Molina fined; not suspended for ejection

Molina's was classic but he may aswell sit out the Pittsburgh series since he probably will be suspended..

The Brewers were leading 7-1 when plate umpire Paul Schrieber ruled Wainwright's first pitch to right fielder Corey Hart was out of the strike zone. Irritated in part by an earlier call, Molina turned slightly to object, was abruptly ejected and stood to confront Schrieber. Molina then stripped off his mask, glove, chest protector and shin guards.

After he finished dumping his gear at the plate, La Russa took over the argument and also was evicted after several minutes.

"I don't understand how (Schrieber) can be so impatient with someone who's established himself as a real pro," La Russa said. "I see catchers do it like (Molina) does who are upper-echelon guys. They can complain a little bit and get some extra slack. He's one of those guys. He complained twice. I thought that was surprising; not what he deserved."

Molina objected on the 70th of Wainwright's 87 pitches, apparently furious that Schrieber was "squeezing" his pitcher.

"I didn't say anything bad to him," said Molina, rarely given to outward anger toward an arbiter. "I respect every umpire. I just asked him, 'Where was the pitch?' He didn't like the way I asked him and he threw me out."

Television replays showed that, once he was ejected, Molina directed several profanities at Schrieber. La Russa wedged himself between the two as Molina stripped, but the catcher had more for Schrieber as he untucked his shirt while third-base coach Jose Oquendo escorted him to the dugout.

Molina declined to discuss undressing. Wainwright called it "awesome. I can smile about something."

The Cardinals haven't heard anything from the league about Yadier Molina's outburst yesterday.

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina has been fined, but not suspended, for his ejection Monday in Milwaukee that included him taking off and leaving his equipment at home plate in apparent protest. Home-plate umpire Paul Schrieber tossed Molina from the game after the two argued over the strike zone.

An official from Major League Baseball, Mike Perez, met with Molina on Wednesday to discuss the incident, and the team learned about MLB’s decision that afternoon.
