Duncan sidelined by hamstring injury

Chris Duncan is tagged out by Colorado's Jayson Nix on a steal attempt Tuesday night.

Left fielder Chris Duncan will be out of the Cardinals’ starting lineup tonight after suffering a hamstring strain while being thrown out trying to steal second in the fourth inning of Tuesday night’s game. Duncan will be replaced in the lineup by Ryan Ludwick, who will hit second and play right field. Duncan isn’t likely to start Thursday’s series finale at 12:15 p.m. either.

"We’re going to make sure he’s well before we run him out there," manager Tony La Russa. We’re not exactly sure how long he’s going to be out -- how long we have to be careful with him."

If hes out for a bit I'd be willing to guess that Joe Mather will be called up if this is any indication..

Outfielder continues to be bothered by sore left hamstring

ST. LOUIS -- Chris Duncan sat out a second game on Thursday due to soreness in his left hamstring, and he likely won't start until at least Sunday.

Duncan first sustained the injury in the Cardinals' season opener on Tuesday against Colorado, but he finished the game. He was kept out of Wednesday night's game and was considered completely unavailable. On Thursday, he again did not start, but he took some batting practice and could be available in an emergency.

"He's taking swings, so that's an improvement," manager Tony La Russa said on Thursday morning. "We'll see how he comes out of the swings and then talk to [head athletic trainer] Barry [Weinberg] about it. Obviously we're going to try not to use him."
